MEXICAN NATIONAL TEAM ADDS LOS ANGELES TO 2017 U.S. TOUR AS SQUAD GEARS UP FOR QUALIFIERS AND 2017 FIFA CONFEDERATIONS CUP

El Tricolor to take on Croatia at L.A. Memorial Coliseum on May 27; tickets on sale March 6

The Mexican National Team will Croatia in Los Angeles to prepare for upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.

The Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) announced that Mexico will play the National Team of Croatia on Saturday, May 27 (4:30 p.m. PT), at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum – presented by Nissan and hosted by 2018 MLS expansion club Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC).

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday, March 6 at 10 a.m. local time, via ticketmaster.com, by calling 800-745-3000 or at the Coliseum Box Office (at Gate 29).

The game is part of the landmark 15th annual Mexican National Team U.S. Tour, which kicked off on Feb. 8 in Las Vegas in a 1-0 win against Iceland in front of a record-breaking audience for soccer in the city.

Croatia, currently 16th in the FIFA Rankings, has faced off against Mexico on four different occasions, with each squad winning two games. Croatia emerged victorious during their first two matches in 1992 and 1999, while Mexico defeated Croatia in Japan during the 2002 FIFA World Cup. The last time these two nations met was during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil in a match that Mexico won 3-1 in Recife, ensuring their pass into the round of 16.

The Coliseum has welcomed the Mexican team on numerous occasions since its opening in 1923. Most recently, Mexico defeated Ecuador 1-0 in front of a sellout crowd of 88,000 fans on a 14th minute goal by striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez in March of 2015.

To get ready for the match, fans can visit the new official U.S. Mexican National Team E-Store, http://store.miseleccion.us/, featuring the latest team gear such as jerseys, hats, and more.

The Tour, sponsored by adidas, Advance Auto Parts, Allstate Insurance Company, Bud Light, Coca-Cola, el Jimador, Makita, Nissan, POWERADE, The Home Depot, and Wells Fargo, will visit five cities across the United States in 2016, and will be broadcast nationally on the Univision family of networks and Fútbol de Primera Radio Network.

USC Announces 2017 Football Schedule

Rose Bowl champs open season with home games against Western Michigan, Stanford and Texas

The 2017 football schedule for defending Rose Bowl champion USC has been announced by the Pac-12 and it features seven home games in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The schedule features three straight home games to open the season, including a rare visit by Texas, and the regular season finale against crosstown rival UCLA. Also visiting the Coliseum will be Pac-12 opponents Stanford, Utah, Arizona and Oregon State and non-conference foe Western Michigan.

Overall, USC’s 12-game schedule features five teams that played in bowls this past season and won at least eight games. The Trojans will play nine league foes in the 2017 regular season (all but Oregon and Washington).

However, for the first time since the 1995 season, the Trojans will not have a regular-season bye week, only getting a week off on the final weekend of November should they advance to the Pac-12 Championship Game on Dec. 1 or 2 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

New season tickets, starting at $320 for all seven home games, are now available for purchase online or by calling 213-740-GOSC (4672).

Current season ticket holders can renew their tickets now by going to the USC Athletics website and clicking on “Manage My Account” under football.

$1B George Lucas Museum To Be Built In Exposition Park

January 10th, 2017

Lucas Museum Plans to Build in Los Angeles

From the Board of Directors, Lucas Museum of Narrative Art

“After extensive due diligence and deliberation, the Board of Directors of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is pleased to announce plans to build the museum in Exposition Park in Los Angeles. We have been humbled by the overwhelmingly positive support we received from both San Francisco and Los Angeles during our selection process. Settling on a location proved to be an extremely difficult decision precisely because of the desirability of both sites and cities.

The board wishes to extend a special thanks to Mayor Ed Lee and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for their tremendous efforts and engagement. While each location offers many unique and wonderful attributes, South Los Angeles’s Promise Zone best positions the museum to have the greatest impact on the broader community, fulfilling our goal of inspiring, engaging and educating a broad and diverse visitorship. Exposition Park is a magnet for the region and accessible from all parts of the city. As a museum uniquely focused on narrative art, we look forward to becoming part of a dynamic museum community, surrounded by more than 100 elementary and high schools, one of the country’s leading universities as well as three other world-class museums.

Now we turn our attention to finalizing the details and building what we believe will be one of the most imaginative and inclusive art museums in the world—a global destination that all Angelenos and Californians will be proud to call their own.”

Go Metro to the L.A. Rams’ Games!

METRO NEWS

Go Metro to the L.A. Rams Fan Fest this August 6th at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and to all upcoming L.A. Rams preseason and regular season football games!

Los Angeles Rams fans are encouraged to use the Metro bus and rail system to get to the upcoming Rams Fan Fest this Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, as well as to all upcoming Rams preseason and regular season football games.

Due to limited parking available in and around the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Metro Expo Line is a great connection to the venue via Expo Park/USC station or Expo/Vermont station adjacent to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

To make travel more convenient for fans, Metro will add service to the Expo Line on game days to run every six minutes instead of every 12 minutes. The additional service will be offered two hours before and after the game.

The public is reminded to purchase a $3.50 round-trip fare at the beginning of trips to avoid lines when the games are over. Each person, including children over the age of 5, must have a valid TAP card and remember to tap before each boarding. In addition, when leaving the Coliseum, signage will be provided to direct those who are going toward Santa Monica to board at Expo Park/USC Station, and those going into downtown Los Angeles to board trains at Expo/Vermont Station.

The Metro Expo Line can be easily accessed via the Metro Rail system with connections at 7th Street/Metro Center in downtown Los Angeles to the Metro Red/Purple lines, and at Pico Station to the Metro Blue line. Fans using the Metro Gold Line can make an easy transfer at Union Station to the Metro Red/Purple lines for a connection to the Expo Line. Enhanced service will also be provided on the Metro Red/Purple and Gold lines during game days.

Parking is available at the North Hollywood Red Line Station and the Universal City/Studio City Red Line Station in the San Fernando Valley, as well as many Gold Line stations, including APU/Citrus College, Azusa Downtown, Irwindale, Duarte/City of Hope, Monrovia, Arcadia and Sierra Madre Villa in East Pasadena, Fillmore in Pasadena, Heritage Square, Lincoln/Cypress, Indiana in Boyle Heights and Atlantic in East Los Angeles. Additional parking is also available at several station locations along the Expo Line, including La Cienega/Jefferson, Culver City, Expo/Sepulveda, Expo/Bundy, 26th Street/Bergamot and 17th Street/SMC. For the Metro Green Line, ample parking is available at nearly all stations between Norwalk and Redondo Beach.

Those fans coming from the San Gabriel Valley or the South Bay area can use the Metro Silver Line, with parking available at either Harbor Gateway Transit Center or El Monte Bus Station. Customers can exit at 37th Street/USC station along the I-110 Express Lanes and walk a few blocks to the Coliseum via Flower Street. Roundtrip fare on the Silver Line is just $5 and each person must have a valid TAP card to ride the Silver Line. TAP vending machines are available at both Harbor Gateway Transit Center and El Monte Bus Station.

For a safer environment and speedier entry, there is a new Coliseum clear bag policy this year. Fans are advised not to bring bags unless in a clear plastic see-through bag. Prohibited are all back packs, purses, fanny packs, camera cases, binocular cases, etc. You can find more details at Be Clear On Game Day Safety.

With the opening of the Gold Line extension to Azusa and the Expo Line Extension to Santa Monica earlier this year, Metro now operates 105 miles of Metro Rail throughout the county and fans are urged to use both Metro trains and buses to the Coliseum. For specific routes and schedule information visit Metro.net.

OLYMPIC DAY 2016

June 22, 2016 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The United States Olympic Committee today announced a record-setting participation for Olympic Day 2016, with 2,120 events scheduled in 1,503 communities across the country expected to engage more than 800,000 Americans in celebration of the Olympic Movement.

Olympic Day, celebrated globally on June 23, has been recognized each year since 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on June 23, 1894. An International Olympic Committee initiative, the mission of Olympic Day is to promote the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect – and the three Olympic Day pillars – move, learn and discover – around the world.

“With the Rio Games fast approaching, we are thrilled to see so many Team USA athletes, National Governing Bodies and Multi-Sport Organizations celebrating Olympic Day and promoting the values of Olympism to the next generation of Olympic and Paralympic athletes,” said USOC CEO Scott Blackmun. “The growth and popularity of Olympic Day underscore the important role that sport can play in the community, and we look forward to some great events this summer.”

In 2016, Olympic Day activities are being held on six continents with several thousand events worldwide and more than 160 participating National Olympic Committees.

LA 2024, the LA84 Foundation and the Foundation for Global Sport Development will co-host an Olympic Day event at the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, where more than 500 young Angelenos will be able to rotate through eight Olympic and Paralympic sport stations, led by Olympic athletes, LA84 Foundation grantee programs, and local sport and adaptive programs.

“We’re honored to be able to celebrate the Olympic Movement with the youth of Los Angeles,” said Janet Evans, LA 2024 vice chair and director of athlete relations. “As a city with a ready-made connection to youth culture, Olympic Day is a unique opportunity to get a taste of what it means to inspire the next generation around the positive and powerful values of sport and Olympism.”

The U.S. Tennis Association is hosting the most Olympic Day events of any individual organization with 354 events planned at local courts across the country, followed by USA BMX, which is hosting 248 events. Forty-three National Governing Bodies and four High Performance Management Organizations and their affiliated clubs will host a total of 1,193 events in honor of Olympic Day.

“Many think that our window to celebrate the Olympic Movement occurs only once every two years,” said five-time Olympic medalist in swimming, John Naber. “By celebrating Olympic Day, we get to share our love of the Movement every year, and we also get to grow the size of our extended Olympic family.”

Olympic Day events in the U.S. are heavily supported by members of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic family, and the following member organizations have registered to participate in 2016 Olympic Day activities:

Sanders Rally Held at LA Coliseum

From a stage framed by the burning Olympic torch atop the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum’s peristyle arch, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders held a rally Saturday, June 4th, saying that he is the Democrats’ best choice to defeat Republican Donald Trump this November.

Sanders addressed over 13,500 cheering supporters that covered the Coliseum’s Olympic Plaza on the final weekend before California Democrats go to the polls to elect 475 pledged delegates, June 7th.

“I hope that the delegates going to the Democratic National Convention understand that in virtually every state poll we do much better against Donald Trump than Secretary Clinton,” Sanders said. “If the delegates at the Democratic National Convention want to make sure we defeat Trump and defeat him badly we are the candidate to do that.”

Since mid-May he has drawn large crowds, more than 211,000 Californians to hear him at rallies, as at the Los Angeles Coliseum.

“Our campaign has the energy, the grassroots activism to make certain that in November we have a large voter turnout. And when people have something to vote for rather than just against, progressives and Democrats win.”

THANK GOFF!

Thousands of faithful fans welcomed the Los Angeles Rams last April 28th at L.A. Live’s NFL Draft Party. Approximately four months following the NFL’s announcement that professional football would return to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Rams and the City finally reunited after twenty-two years of being apart.

Video screens hovered above the L.A Live Plaza where fans enjoyed watching interviews of current and former Rams players from the wide screens, taking photos with the new Rams Cheerleaders, and also enjoyed a beer garden and food tents. This was most definitely a party atmosphere, covered in a sea of blue and gold Rams’ colors.

Optimism and excitement filled the air when Commissioner Roger Goodell, live from Chicago, took the podium and announced, “…with the number one pick in the 2016 NFL Draft the Los Angeles Rams select Jared Goff, quarterback from Cal.”

It’s official – the Los Angeles Rams are back and ready to face off against the Dallas Cowboys in a pre-season game on August 13th at the Coliseum.

If it’s even more possible, the summer of 2016 is looking a lot brighter for Los Angeles.
